Peers in the House of Lords this week rejected moves to make collective worship in schools optional, rather than compulsory.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation has contacted the chief of the US Forest Service asking him to remove a Catholic shrine atop Whitefish Mountain, and overrule an underling’s decision to take public comments on whether the federal government should host the religious display.

‘Educational Choice’ hooey: School vouchers help religious schools, not families

Proponents of the latest voucher schemes are depicting vouchers as a way to ensure “educational choice.” But what they don’t tell you is that the “choice” remains with the religious and other private schools. It is they and not parents who decide who gets admitted to their classrooms.

Discussions of the Education Bill in the House of Lords became heated last night as prominent children’s rights advocates slammed the Christian Institute for spreading ‘misinformation’ and ‘wicked insinuations’ about amendments relating to inspecting well-being in schools insinuating that proposed changes ‘would force schools to teach five year-olds about sex’.

The third day of the Education Bill’s Report Stage took place yesterday, with peers debating the continued proliferation of state-funded ‘faith’ schools, in particular changes in the Bill to make Voluntary Aided schools – the most extreme type of state-maintained school – easier to set up.
