Anti-Gay Lawmaker Arrested for DUI After Leaving Gay Club

Once again, a virulently anti-gay lawmaker has been nailed (figuratively speaking) spending his spare time in gay bars. This one, demonstrating his commitment to “family values” and “personal responsibility” by capping his evening of cruising for gay sex with a DUI.

California State Senator Roy Ashburn was arrested for DUI after leaving Faces, a gay nightclub in Sacramento (the state capital of California) . . . while driving a trick — sorry, a “male passenger” — home (or to a place of rendezvous?).

So?

Not only is Ashburn a Republican, he is a divorced (so much for family values) father of four, and has a solid anti-gay voting record. MSN reports that Ashburn has “voted against every gay rights law, including Recognising Out-Of-State Same-Sex Marriages and Expanding Anti-Discrimination Laws”.

The worst part?

Ashburn was driving a state vehicle.

Ashburn commented:

I am deeply sorry for my actions and offer no excuse for my poor judgment. I accept complete responsibility for my conduct and am prepared to accept the consequences for what I did. I am also truly sorry for the impact this incident will have on those who support and trust me – my family, my constituents, my friends, and my colleagues in the Senate.

There are those who say no apology is sincere. If you were truly sorry, they say, you wouldn’t have done what you did.

What do you think? Does that apply here? Is Ashburn only “sorry” because he got nailed?

  1. I'm not surprised at all. Scientifically, heterosexual men have no reason at all to dislike/hate those who are homosexual. On the contrary – they should encourage them because more gay men – less competition for straight ones.

The only "point" in insulting/hating gay people (gay men mostly) is proving that the homophobe itself has no attraction whatsoever to men, therefore increasing his "masculinity" and respect in same-minded community. And who needs this most? Closeted homosexuals, who, afraid (and often ashamed) of their sexuality need to constantly remind others of their hate. That's a proven fact.
