Pray4Trig Seeks Miracle to Prove God's Existence to World

Bizarre Fundamentalist website pray4trig.com got kicked in the teeth by the Internet yesterday . . . and immediately changed its tune.

It seems the Alaska Dispatch caught on to “Shirlee” and her pray4trig.com website. We’ve mentioned it in the past.

Seems her site was focused on building a coalition to pray for Trig Palin, to heal him of Down Syndrome. Why? Not because Trig’s such a neat kid, but to prove to the world that Shirlee’s imaginary friend is real.

Prayers not answered? PRAY HARDER!

After being picked up by the Alaska Dispatch, Gawker and BoingBoing seem to have gotten in on the act.

Naturally, they focus on it being “anti-Trig” instead of “pro-Imaginary Friend”:

“Pray 4 Trig” Pranksters Calling God’s Bluff
Well, this is something. “Pray 4 Trig” is organizing a “worldwide day of prayer to heal Trig Palin” of his Down syndrome. They are making some point about biblical literalism and also being tremendous dicks. [via Alaska Dispatch]

A website, Pray4Trig.com, is organizing a worldwide day of prayer to induce God to “cure” Trig Palin of Down Syndrome. Next April 18 (Trig’s birthday), they ask individuals and congregations around the world to pray that God removes the extra chromosome that He Himself gave Trig. The point being that when God cures Trig, it will show incontrovertible evidence of God’s existence and power to “atheists and others who hate God.” However, in the event that God should fail to cure Trig, the group maintains, it won’t be a measure of His existence or non-existence, it will only indicate that those praying had too little faith. Read the group’s FAQ, here, but be sure to explore the whole site to behold human pride in all its blasphemous glory.

Apparently, all this was a little much for Shirlee, who has changed the website name to “pray4healing.com” and leads with:

Q: Hey, I thought this was Pray4Trig. What gives?

A: Something happened on January 19.

In addition to the regular load of hate mail we got from those who hate the Lord, we received an anonymous emailed threat, promising a DDoS attack at a specific time. The emailer said he (or is it she?) was offended that we were “disparaging Trig Palin”.

Nothing could be further from the truth! But it’s not the first time we’ve heard this.

At the appointed time, our server crashed. God had told us to take this one seriously, so we’d backed up our database immediately before.

However, this made it clear to us that this site was not helping to demonstrate the majesty of God. It was sowing discontent and hatred among those who didn’t understand. So, we decided to let you, the users of the site, decide what the Worldwide Day of Prayer should focus upon.

We wish Shirlee the best in finding a “miracle” that thousands — nay, millions — can get behind and pray for. Something to happen on one day.

And we can’t wait to see how Shirlee reacts when it doesn’t happen.

Friends, don’t you want to help Shirlee find her new miracle?

We thought you would.

UPDATE: It looks like the Pray4TrigHealing poll has a winner. Voters want to see PZ Myers convert from atheism to following “the One True God”.

Better be more specific, Shirl ol’ Girl. You might just end up with a convert to Oprahism, or the leader of the Campus Crusade for Cthulhu.

  2. I like how they said that when Trig was healed it would prove god exist but if it didn’t work, it proved only that peoples faith is strong enough. Wow talk about some strange standards there. I would say if it didn’t work that it would prove that their god is powerless.

Well the change is typical christian goalpost changing. I figure it wasn’t a threat but on the advice of other religious leaders that led to the change. It is much easier to claim victory when you pray for something doctors can already fix.

    • Doctors can fix PZ Myers? Naaah!

  3. God created Trig as he is meant to be, and as a Karmic lesson for his power hungry, selfish mother. Time will tell us if the Ego-driven Sarah Palin can work it out with God for her eternal salvation. She knew, and willingly chose this child, and accepted the challenge. She intentionally ignored health precautions both before and during the pregnancy, The only question remains: Will she do right by the kiddo or serve herself ?

    • Pacha, I want to be sure I’m understanding your comment correctly.

You’re saying that you believe God gave Trig an extra chromosome, thus sentencing him to a challenging and difficult life, all to teach his mother a lesson about parenting?
