Sayonara, Sarah! (Or Not?)

As Sarah Palin exits the Governor’s mansion, vowing to “fight even harder”, a new Washington Post-ABC News poll indicates that a majority of Americans see her in an unfavorable light, and that nearly 40% of Republicans believe she does not understand complex issues. That doesn’t mean she’ll rule out the 2012 GOP primary.

As expected, Wailin’ Palin provided another dose of victimhood in her incoherent exit:

So how about in honor of the American soldier, you quit making up things. And don’t underestimate the wisdom of the people. And one other thing for the media — our new governor has a very nice family, too, so leave his kids alone!

While Palin was generally surrounded by friendly faces at her three-day “farewell picnic” (in Wasilla, Anchorage, and Fairbanks), on the national stage, things aren’t so positive.

Said Republican strategist Alex Castellanos on CNN’s “State of the Union With John King:

She abandoned her state in the middle of a term. They didn’t ask for her to run. She volunteered to run and assumed that job. I think she has hurt herself. You’ve seen those numbers turn.

The poll has even more bad news for Palin.

While more than 75% of Democrats have a negative view of Palin — as one might expect — 51% of independents share that view.

Of all Americans, 57% don’t believe she understands complex issues . . . including nearly 40% of Republicans!

Rick Buila, a 38-year-old former Palin supporter who voted McCain-Palin, summed it up the sentiment nicely:

I don’t think that she is cut out to be on the national stage. I look at her education and her background and the way she carries herself and her [resignation] speech, and when you have someone who’s out there saying ‘You betcha’ about 50 times, I don’t think that’s the person we want to have negotiating with other countries.

You betcha.
