The black people of my home State of South Carolina have been under attack by the NAACP since 1999. You see the NAACP has organized a boycott of South Carolina because the Confederate battle flag flies over a small portion of the grounds of the state capitol.
For those of you unfamiliar with the situation, here is a brief background. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Civil War, the Confederate battle flag was raised above the state house dome. By the mid 1990’s there was much agitation to bring it down. I shared those sentiments. A compromise was reached in 1999 and in 2000 the flag was removed from above the dome and placed at the site of the Memorial for Confederate Soldiers. This compromise achieved the goal of the black citizenry to remove the flag from a position of dominion. It also satisfied the goal of white descendants of Civil War soldiers to have their heritage honored. In addition to the placement compromise, it was agreed that a monument to black achievement would be erected. The monument was completed by 2004. It was a good compromise and I accept it.
Unfortunately, the NAACP got involved.
The NAACP did not accept the compromise. The NAACP meddled in the internal affairs of the State of South Carolina and sought to disrupt the efforts of both black people and white people to resolve the issue. When it was decided to move, rather than banish the flag, the NAACP initiated a boycott of South Carolina.
Liberals have a long history of thinking they are doing good, while inflicting unintended consequences with impunity; never admitting they are wrong. This boycott has directly impacted the ability of BLACK people to make a living in South Carolina. It is estimated that up to 66% of the two hundred thousand jobs that don’t exist because of the boycott would be held today by black people. The NAACP refuses to reverse their position. Corporations don’t come to South Carolina because of the strong arm tactics of the NAACP. Who wants to be labeled a racist? It’s easier to walk away than to pursue the construction of a facility that would provide jobs. Sports tournaments that would add millions of dollars of revenue to the state, city, and county coffers go to other places because of the NAACP. Tourism jobs that would have been held by black people don’t exist.
This has to stop. I am a black man but I have no use for the NAACP.
Please write or email the NAACP and demand that this boycott be terminated!
